Dr. Carew is a licensed clinical psychologist in New Jersey with over 25 years of professional experience in the mental health field. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Oberlin College, a Masters degree in Group Counseling & Organizational Dynamics from Drexel University, and both Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
She has previously worked for the Devereux Foundation, Community Treatment Solutions, Center for Family Services, and the University Correctional Healthcare division of Rutgers University serving as a trauma coordinator liaison between Rutgers and the NJ Juvenile Justice Commission. She is the clinical director and co-founder of Emerge Behavioral Health, an agency providing intensive in community and outpatient services to youth, young adults, and their families. Dr. Carew is a co-owner and managing director for RR&C Associates, a psychiatric services practice.
Dr. Carew is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a concentration in behavioral medicine, and incorporates other specialized models of treatment such as Trauma-Focused CBT, Integrative Treatment of Complex Trauma for Adolescents (ITCT-A), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) in her practice. Her areas of focus include the treatment of youth, young and middle-aged adults suffering from traumatic loss, complex trauma, depression, anxiety, adjustment problems, personality disorders, family/marital discord, parent-child problems, substance abuse, and legal problems.
Having worked with hundreds of individuals at different stages of life, and of different cultural, socioeconomic, and sexual orientation backgrounds has been both a blessing and privilege for Dr. Carew, who approaches treatment in a non-judgmental and compassionate manner.
Dr. Carew serves on the board of the South Jersey Psychological Association and is a member of the New Jersey Psychological Association.
